Vallunaraju Expedition - Andean Heights

Vallunaraju Expedition

5,686 m / 18,654 ft

Cordillera Blanca, Peru | 2-Day Expedition

Overview

Nevado Vallunaraju (5,686 m / 18,654 ft), whose name in Quechua means "Peak of Dreams," is one of the most prominent mountains visible directly from Huaraz. This distinctive double-headed peak is close enough to the city to allow a summit trek in just two days, making it one of the most accessible 5,000m+ peaks in the Cordillera Blanca.

Located in the beautiful Llaca Valley, Vallunaraju offers climbers a moderately challenging ascent with spectacular views of the entire Cordillera Blanca, including Huascarán, Ranrapalca, Ocshapalca, and the city of Huaraz below. The normal route, first climbed in 1949, follows the North Ridge and provides an excellent acclimatization climb for those seeking higher elevations. Its proximity to Huaraz and easy access make it one of the most frequented 5,000m peaks in the range.
