Overview
Nevado Ishinca (5,530 m / 18,143 ft) is a beautiful non-technical mountain situated in the stunning Ishinca Valley between two giants of the Cordillera Blanca: Ranrapalca (6,162m) and Palcaraju (6,272m). This classic climbing route is ideal for those seeking an accessible high-altitude experience and serves as perfect acclimatization before attempting more challenging objectives like Tocllaraju or Ranrapalca.
The standard route follows the Northeast Ridge, offering a moderate glacier climb with spectacular panoramic views from the summit. From the top, climbers are rewarded with breathtaking vistas of the surrounding peaks and the entire Ishinca Valley below. First climbed in 1954, Ishinca has become one of the most popular acclimatization peaks in the Cordillera Blanca due to its accessibility and stunning beauty.

Detailed Itinerary
Day 1
Huaraz - Pashpa - Ishinca Base Camp (4,350m)
Depart Huaraz in the morning and drive approximately 1 hour to the village of Pashpa (Cochapampa). Meet our porters and donkeys who will transport group equipment up the valley. Begin hiking through the beautiful Ishinca Valley on a well-maintained trail, enjoying views of agriculture and livestock in the lower sections before entering the pristine wilderness. Pass through diverse Andean vegetation and wildlife habitats as we ascend gradually. After approximately 4 hours of pleasant hiking, arrive at Base Camp (4,350m), located in the heart of the valley with spectacular views of Ishinca, Tocllaraju, and Ranrapalca. Set up camp, organize gear, and rest. Total: 1 hour driving, 4 hours hiking. 🏕 Overnight at Base Camp.
Day 2
Summit Day - Ishinca (5,530m) - Base Camp
Alpine start at 2:00 AM with breakfast. Begin climbing in the darkness up a well-marked path, hiking for several hours through rocky moraine sections. As dawn breaks, reach the edge of the glacier and put on crampons and harness. The climb follows steady glacier slopes on the Northwest face, not overly steep except for the final 25 meters to the summit. Navigate around crevasses and ice features as we ascend. After approximately 3-4 hours on the glacier, reach the spectacular summit of Ishinca with 360-degree panoramic views of the Cordillera Blanca including Ranrapalca, Tocllaraju, Palcaraju, and countless other peaks. Spend time on top enjoying the incredible sunrise and mountain vistas. Descend carefully via the same route back to Base Camp where our cook will have a delicious hot meal waiting. Summit day: 8-10 hours round trip. 🧗 Climb time.
Day 3
Base Camp - Pashpa - Huaraz
After a well-deserved rest and celebratory breakfast, pack up camp and begin the descent through Ishinca Valley back to Pashpa/Cochapampa. Enjoy the beautiful scenery on the way down, passing through native flora including quenual trees. Our vehicle will be waiting at Pashpa to transport us back to Huaraz, arriving in the afternoon with time to celebrate your successful summit. Approximately 3 hours hiking, 1 hour driving. 🚐 Return to Huaraz.
