The Roof of Peru - An Epic Glacier Expedition
Huascarán stands as the highest mountain in Peru and the fourth highest in South America. Its twin summits, Huascarán Sur and Huascarán Norte, dominate the spectacular Cordillera Blanca skyline.
This legendary expedition takes you across vast glaciers, through exposed serac sections, and up to breathtaking high camps. It's a serious mountaineering challenge that rewards those prepared for both the extreme altitude and the mental fortitude required for multi-day glacier travel.
Experience the thrill of standing atop Peru, with 360° views of the Andes, the Callejón de Huaylas valley, and the remote Conchucos region stretching to the horizon.
Drive to eucalyptus forests above Huaypan (3,800m). Begin scenic hike with stunning views of Cordillera Negra and Callejón de Huaylas. Trek through queñual forest and narrow moraine trails to reach Huascarán Refuge.
Continue on stable moraine terrain to the glacier's edge. Cross relatively easy glacier terrain, carefully navigating visible crevasses until reaching Camp 1 on the glacier.
🚨 Early alpine start (3:00 AM) to cross "La Canaleta" - the technical crux and high-risk avalanche zone. Careful traverse toward "La Garganta" (the throat) before establishing Camp 2.
Pre-dawn start across vast glacial plateau. Tackle 50° slopes, technical traverses, and serac sections. Summit Peru's highest peak with breathtaking 360° Andean panorama. Descend to Camp 2.
Early descent past La Canaleta, down through Camp 1 and back to the refuge. Carefully navigate the technical sections and glacier terrain.
Descend through forest and valleys back to trailhead. Exit via Huaypan or Musho depending on route. Private transport returns to Huaraz.
